What in the world is going on?

If anyone out there is looking for a great book to read, I HIGHLY recommend What in the World is going on? by Dr. David Jeremiah. He goes in depth into 10 prophetic clues from the Bible and explains how they are coming true in our world today. It's pretty amazing. Sometimes we live in our own little box and never realize what is happening in the world around us. Of course the media is never going to tell us half of what is really going on, but this book does. You may not believe one word of the Bible, but you can't ignore the prophecies that have already come true and the ones that are playing out right before our very eyes. Dr. Jeremiah goes into great detail describing Israel's connection (God help us if we ever turn our back on them), the oil crisis connection, Islam, the Rapture, the anti-Christ and all kinds of other amazing things that were foretold hundreds of years ago. Even if you aren't convinced of the spiritual implications behind the prophecies, you will be enlightened about some serious things that are happening in our world.

I read this part last night and just have to share it with you:

God sounded the warnings loud and clear. They have come through His prophets in the Old Testament, through New Testament writers, and even through Jesus Himself. The firestorm is coming in the form of seven years of tribulation, when no Christian influence will temper the evil that will plunge the earth into a cauldron of misery and devastation. But you can avoid the destruction and be evacuated. You can enter your name on the list of those who will hear the trumpet call of the Rapture by turning to Christ and beginning to live the pure and holy life that characterizes those who will enter heaven. As the apostle John wrote: "But there shall by no means enter it [the heavenly kingdom of God] anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life" (Revelation 21:27)
If your name is not in that book, when the Rapture occurs you will be left behind to experience horrors worse than anything the world has yet seen. I hope you will not wait another day; turn to Jesus Christ now, before it is too late, and become one of those who will hear His call on that great and terrible day.

More reading...

I recently finished up another book...The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands by Dr. Laura Schlessinger. Very interesting book. Not one I would have picked up off the shelf on my own but someone wanted my opinion of it so I read it, very neat stuff. It had some new perspectives I never thought mattered to husbands before. It's an easy read too :)

I like what Dr. Laura says at the end: "Men rescue, repair, provide, protect. Men don't sit, stew, and rehash. Men are active and proactive. They do that out of love, duty, responsibility, and character. That needs to be respected and appreciated if a woman is to have a happy life married to a good man. A good man is just that--a man. A good man is not a best girlfriend."

"The truth is that when it comes to home and relationships, women rule, this is a book about how to rule wisely and lovingly."

Reading

I love to read, I just haven't done much of it the last few years... except radiology books that is. But lately I have had the desire to get back into some leisurely reading. I have been extremely interested in one particular book since I picked it up. It's called More than a Carpenter, by Josh McDowell. I have heard this author referenced for years and never took the time to actually read any of his books. It is so interesting and I highly recommend it to anyone, whether you claim to be a Christian or not, it's a very cool book. This particular book discusses whether the Bible is historically and geographically accurate, was Jesus really who he said he was and what difference does it make? What's even cooler is that Josh McDowell originally set out to disprove the Bible and prove that Christians are deceived and are blind followers who can't think for themselves. Through his research however, he actually began to see that the Bible is 100% accurate and 100% truth and he is now a Christian. What an awesome God we serve that all it takes is His Word to bring someone to faith in Him. WOW! Anyway... it's a great book. I'm even more excited to start another of his books, Evidence that Demands a Verdict.

Update

I'm pretty much enjoying my last summer break ever! I've stayed pretty busy though with work and wedding planning. I'm still working part time but have a couple 40-hour weeks coming up. I did get a raise at work though, my supervisor called me Saturday while I was at the office and she said the doctor agreed to the raise which goes into effect immediately!! I was so excited, I actually get a little bit of respect now from everybody since I'm officially Registered. They even got me a new name tag that says Lindsey Simmons RT (R). You guys have no idea how special that makes me feel, haha. Plus when the PA's ask me if I see anything on an x-ray, I feel pretty important then when I can point things out to them. I love my job, it's tons of fun. Except when you have to x-ray a kid like I did last night who was screaming in my face and ear, kicking and was just quite uncooperative, (and it's 20 minutes after closing time) then you just want to quit. :)

In other news, Kyle and I went by and looked at our new apartment today. The one Kyle had reserved didn't work out because the lady decided she wanted to stay. So we actually got a bigger apartment for the same price, yay! It's not huge but it's very close to my parents, church and work so it works out great! We're both excited about that, we can start moving Kyle's stuff in on July 28th.

Wedding plans are going well too. My Mom contacted a lady who will probably be doing the cake for us. She did two of my cousins' cakes and they were delicious. She was going to charge us like a third of what the Raleigh folks were charging so I'm very excited about that. We have a limo reserved, I'm looking into dj's and decorations and things like that now too. Kyle and I have been reading some very good books that are supposed to help you prepare for marriage. I have to say they have all been wonderful so far and I think we have both learned a LOT!! I'm sure that you can never fully prepare for such a life-changing event but we are doing our best with lots of advice and counsel from others. We're not done yet but here's a list we have started:
